McCain is not an idiot. He's old and senile and very susceptible to suggestions from the idiots he is currently surrounding himself with. It's unfortunate that his current campaign is painting such a poor picture, as it is probably the one that will be remembered. The McCain of 8 years ago (though I still disagreed with many of his policies) was several cuts above the senile and desperate McCain of 2008.
