Branwell wants to know, is this what it's come down to? Explaining Kojak to people on a Friday night? Because if this is the situation, some things may have to change.

Oh, I don't think there is much of a story. I was at a show on Friday night, an acquaintance of mine asked who Kojak was. (A friend of hers had made an allusion to him in conversation with her.) So I had to explain Kojak to her.

And... I don't know. I'm not exactly an expert on Kojak. But it seems to me that a) do people not know Kojak? Is that possible? I mean, this girl didn't even know that was the name of a fictional character. Also, b) this is one of those subjects where you can know more than someone else, and you really don't have the right to be proud of it or act like you possess any kind of useful knowledge.

And then the comment the guy had made to her turned out to be about shaving pubic hair, which was awkward. I don't like it when a person asks you an innocent question concerning a TV detective, and then it turns out you were unwittingly serving as a footnote to someone's ill-conceived joke about groins.

oh, the shaving bit really makes it the whole situation unseemly.

but yeah, everyone should know, at least in passing, that there is this tv show kojak, that he was bald, and liked lollipops. if you know no more, i wont hold it against you, but that's the baseline before i'll consider you a friend or put my wee-wee in your mouth.
