My SO hates everything French. I love 'em. Problem?

I don't think it's a problem. The trick is to find something he likes or takes seriously, and then slowly introduce him to the French contribution.
For example, if he really were all gung-ho "I love America," there's no way to discount that American Constitutionalism derives from a Frenchman (Montesquieu), that Lincoln sounds an awful lot like Rousseau at times, etc. etc.
I'm into poetry so Baudelaire was how I really started respecting all things French.
Daft Punk is an awesome band and is Paris-based. I can't think of anything else right now though.
I just read this:

It's really weird, cos he likes Daft Punk, he likes Michel Gondry, but hates everything else. I don't understand. He says that he just hates the culture or something.
The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France. France supplied arms to America during the war of 1812.

Is it an irrational hatred? Is it that whole "freedom fries" bullshit? How does the hatred manifest itself?
