So how do you feel about Starbucks closing some (600) of its stores? Excited? Sad? Neutral?

Needs to happen. Too many stores means, harder to maintain control of your image. They can't train enough good people to properly operate the stores and they need to prune the dead leaves.

i dont understand the appeal of a BURNT roast.

and yes i realize they recently lightened it...

I guess that plenty of their employees will be out of jobs too...hmm.

Yea, I was kind of sad face about all the unemployment that would cause - since obviously - our economy isn't getting any better.

Aww.. all the potheads will have to clean their urine to get a slightly shittier fast food job.

this is what we get for outsourcing all manufacturing

They changed their coffee like 2 months ago to a new roast that tastes a lot better (IMO), and they do have free wifi now (if you have one of those starbucks gift cards, but those are essentially free).

El Indio said, (174 days ago)

what is an "essentially free" gift card?

Xopchipili said, (174 days ago)

well like, its one of those debit gift cards where you pay X amount for one and then you've got X amount to use at the store. So it doesn't actually cost you anything assuming you're going to buy coffee while you're there.

They had to trim the fat. Look, in some parts of Bangkok or NY there are Starbucks within a block of each other. This is unneccesary.

I agree with El Indio when it comes to Starbucks in the US. But it's a totally different story with Mexican Starbucks. They have AMAZING snacky stuff (zomg carrot cake) and WiFi and the coffee is okayish.

I hope they aren't closing any Mexico stores.

@AArtaud - I'm totally aware of that - I mean - Hell, when my dad was working in SF and we'd get lunch - I'm pretty sure we'd walk by at least 3 starbucks within throwing distance of each other. Still, I can't help but feel kind of : / about people losing their jobs. Yes, Starbucks was out of control long ago, not like I'm saying they HAVE to keep the one open by my house. They have to keep the one open by my Mom - she'd be sad without - but my heart can go on.

this means there won't be Starbucks across the street from Starbucks anywhere anymore, right??

I mean really, talk about overkill.
