cut up a bunch of berries(strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries etc)
buy some store made crepes
whip up some whipped cream and voila!

that does sound delish. i could even use frozen berries that keep forever. this is a great idea!

anywho, store made crepes? i'm not familiar with these. refridgerated case? with the biscuits? frozen? where do i find them?

Erinzzz said, (174 days ago)

'course if you have flour, milk and eggs you can make crepes fresh... it's super easy.

mmmmmm! now I want some.

Jello cake! Get a box of cake mix, bake the cake. Make jello. Poke holes on top of the cake and pour jello mix on top of cake and refrigerate. Frost with cool WHip!

buy/make pudding (pudding is VERY easy to make), and layer pudding with fresh fruits. If you get pre-made pudding, it looks like you made it, if you take it out of it's container.

I just read an interesting recipe for ice cream cake that's super easy.

Basically, you buy a bunch of ice cream sandwiches and fill a cake pan with them, then refreeze and then pop out onto a plate. If you frost it, no one knows they are sandwiches.

@erin z, i've seen alton brown's crepe episode. i don't think i'm going to make my own crepes, though. pancakes represent my outter limits in this regard. i'd love to try yours, though!

@booknutdc, anything with coolwhip is a winner.

@mace, i like both these ideas. and i love puddin'.

OH. And if you have a BBQ going, or have a grill pan or something, grilled peaches look very fancy and difficult and are, in fact, really really easy. Especially if you have ice cream to serve with them.

I like savory crepes the best - with smoked salmon + herbed cream cheese NOM NOM NOM

My quick desert is just a chocolate cake out of a box but instead of the oil and water you add a big can of cherry pie filling and some vanilla extract. Slap on some chocolate frosting and you are in business!

I dunno, while it requires baking, I think this is a soooooouper easy recipe. Eve's Pudding. I have the recipe & the photo of the result here on my Flickr. http://flickr.com/photos/thaumatrope/1394580583/

You can make an easy fondue with Nutella. Basically, you melt down some Nutella with a little bit of milk in a saucepan, then dip in strawberries or pretzels or cookies or WHATEVER. Very good.

Take some marscapone, whipped creme, some kind of berry, and cookie/lady finger/cake slice of your choice. Mix the marscapone and whipped creme together. Layer a couple times in a fancy plastic cup: cookie, cheese mix, berries.

Everyone will enjoy.

Limited Time Offer said, (174 days ago)

@ginger: That sounds really tasty.

artschooled said, (174 days ago)

whipped creme, frozen and fresh fruit, angel food cake.

layer them all in a nice bowl, sprinkle a little grated choco on the top and you're in business!

Once I made a cake simliar to this (except I soaked the cookie or whatever in liqueur/juice mixture and used sliced strawberries and I won THE dessert contest.

Moose Elaine said, (174 days ago)

I think what we can all learn from this is:
fruit + something yummy + layering = excellent easy dessert.

artschooled said, (174 days ago)

Ginger-- legendary! i like the liqueur/juice soaking idea.

OMG, I have been trying to think of what I would do with these lovely brandy soaked cherries that sarah made and leaning towards crepes, but Tiff's tiramisuish thing sounds PERFECT.

WordNerd said, (174 days ago)

@artschooled: mmmmmmmm! cream, berries and caaaaaaaaake is an awesome easy dessert.

My friend's grandmother makes this AMAZING dessert that starts with brownies soaked in Kahlua, then she layers those brownies, chocolate pudding, whipped cream, and crushed up Heath bars. That's probably a few steps further than a simple dessert, but the Kahlua soaked brownies are really good all on their own, and she just uses a brownie mix for that part.

Tell the truth - did you make up this topic especially for me?
I'll try to be brief and not duplicate what other people said. Off the top of my head:

Banana pudding is simple - make a box of vanilla pudding (or from scratch is simple too) and layer a pan with vanilla wafers, slices of ripe banana, and pudding a few times. Let sit in the fridge awhile til it's all squishy goodness.

Mix Marscapone cheese with honey to taste, dip figs and cherries in it.

Slice strawberries and pour a tiny bit of balsalmic vinegar over them, mix and let mascerate for an hour or so.

Chocolate chips melt in seconds in a microwave, or you can use a double boiler or fondue pot if you have one. Then dip fresh strawberries, slices of cake, shortbread cookies or anything at all in the chocolate and either eat them immediately or let them cool on waxed paper a few hours. Chocolate makes everything good.

Speaking of shortbread, it's the simplest cookie in the universe, only butter, flour, and sugar. http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/SHORTBREAD-COOKIES-237919

Oh, and my supereasy macaroons: One 16 oz bag shredded coconut, one can condensed milk, 1 tsp vanilla. Mix in bowl, drop in round scoops on a greased cookie sheet, bake about 10 min at 350. Also good dipped in chocolate (see above).

Erinzzz said, (174 days ago)

@Mizsarah - have you ever dipped rosemary triscuts in the marscapone-honey concoction... you will die. Die a death. It is -that- good.

mizsarah said, (174 days ago)

Dear universe - please provide that when I die, Marscapone and honey are involved in any way possible. Thank you.

Layer: Ladyfingers, cool whip, fresh fruits.

Eat.

lay oale said, (174 days ago)

this is my favorite kind of shortbread to make

Also if you go healthy:

Apples, cinnamon, sugar, Raisins

Grate apples, sprinkle cinnamon and sugar, mix raisins and pop in microwave for 2 minutes. Excellent comfort food.

lay oale said, (174 days ago)

And if you have tons of stale or about to be going stale bread (preferably nice sourdough) take them, cube them and put them in a dish

Add 1 egg, 1 pat of butter, cinnamon, and sugar, and maybe some cloves or raisins

Toss the bread and put into the oven at about 350 and cook until top is golden brown

Make a whiskey sauce and you have some of the best bread pudding dessert ever.

@Mace: and grilled pineapple is heaven

cupcakes, maybe said, (174 days ago)

this is so fucking awesome! i can't believe my good luck in coming into this as a topic. this stuff will be super easy to make, and the ingredients are mostly stuff that i usually have, or keeps a long time.

yes, miss oracle, grilled pineapple is delish

@bmanda, go crazy. bust out with all you got.

@mizsarah, erinz, tiff, & everybody else with marscapone suggestions, yeah, i always forget. marscapone makes such effing fabulous desserts, lends an sophistcated flair, and is off the charts tasty. geniuses, you are.

cupcakes, maybe said, (174 days ago)

@mace, i often do apples on the grill, filled with butter/brownsugar/cinneminn/etc. i'll have to try peaches. sounds yummy.

Moose Elaine said, (174 days ago)

Grilled pineapple is fantastic. Just a pain to cut apart. Also, I always eat too much and rip up the inside of my mouth.

OH! You can also use up old red wine by putting it in a saucepan and adding some sugar and spices (I recommend cloves and cinnamon) and boiling it down until it's kind of thick. Throw some halved pears in and it is super gourmet(ish).

@Fiddlemace, yeeeeaaaah.....so, um...does this make you the pot or the kettle?

Who cares, so long as I'm black.
