Is this tattoo idea a bit cliche?
A "lens" of sorts over my heart that reveals it, as well as things on the way there, in an anitomically correct fashion. The lens would be framed by an ouroboros.

I find the whole tearing of the skin to reveal what's underneath tattoo thing to be kinda cheesy, but I also kind of like this idea.
I haven't seen/heard anything about it. I think it'd be neat. Would you have it anatomically coloured, or have it coded like they do in medical books?
Variations of this might have the heart being non-anatomically correct.
These would be a bit more silly, I think, but probably more fun/interesting and less "trying to be deep".
@toast: maybe it'd be anatomically correct, but buried in rock, and there would be dwarven miners picking at it with their pickaxes.
You could have it reveal a tiny man (or ape of some sort) in a room full of levers.
See, and this is where it gets dangerous and we come up with a really bad idea that I love.
i love anatomical design. who cares, if you love it get it. although i think you should start it as a sleeve instead because boys become at least 57% hotter when they have nice sleeve tattoos.
every tattoo is cliche anyway nobody is fucking original. GET WHAT YOU WANT!
@agent: it'd probably connect to the tattoo on my shoulder.
I kinda want to get an Escher sleeve.
I think the rock thing sounds interesting... your original idea does as well, but i'd have to see it to know if it was good/bad.
@beccah: I have a friend that is a really great artist, and she just started tattooing. I think I might let her take on the task.
cliche or not it all comes down to what YOU want on YOUR body.
i think its sometimes it is important to be creative in these ideas but really, the only person it should ultimately matter to is you. if you like it, then do it. fuck what anyone who looks at it thinks.
@danny: I'm not much of an Indie fanatic. I enjoyed the movies, but I'm not "fanboy status".
oh please, please, PLEASE do it like this instead: http://bp2.blogger.com/_8ixRt5JTcX0/R1_SFw8-nhI/AAAAAAAAAOs/2fq7BDzAn4Y/s320/grinch.jpg
@skanko: I understand that, but sometimes you have an idea that sounds good in theory, but turns out to be really bad.
I have lots of these ideas.
@jesse: that's similar to another variation I had on this idea. TINY HEART!
@corey - hahah don't i know it. i have had a million bad ideas. but the latest tattoo i got started out as a joke, and the more i let it sit and the more i thought about it, the more i decided i really really liked it. and thats why i went through with it, yes its jokey and humorous, but i also know i wont be sick of it, and i thoroughly enjoy it now. i couldn't be happier. my advice is just think about it for a while, don't dismiss any ridiculous idea, tweak it and make it into the perfect thing for you.
i.e. my newest terrible idea is a half sleeve depicting an epic battle between vikings and lumberjacks.

I really want to get an Escher-esque piece, but I'm not sure how well it would work on skin. I definitely want a tessellation transformation.
@agent lover - haha gracias. if i could actually DRAW and i drew it i might consider it. but its just too epic for me to consider right now.
I love Jesse's idea. Now I want to get a bunch of gears and wires inked onto my elbows and arms.
The idea isn't bad. But it would be cool, if it looked like your skin was actually torn, and your heart was showing.

i think this is an interesting idea.
I have a flower on the small of back-now that is cliche.
