Oh jeez, I forgot about this topic for a minute.

SO. OK SO.

I have thus far only downloaded the free applications cos i'm broke as a joke.

AIM -- Its ok. What I like the best about it is that it doesn't disconnect when my iphone goes idle, like jivetalk used to. So even when my iphone is asleep, it still dings and vibrates when I get an IM. YES.

Eventful -- Its AMAZING. It's like having cityguide or something right there on my phone, but its way easier to navigate than cityguide, and it tells me EVERYTHING thats going on in Miami AND Fort Lauderdale, and it tells me how many other users are gonna be there too, which is probably useless for someone like me, but still a cool feature anyway.

Remote -- AWESOME. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.

Bubbles -- HIGHLY ENTERTAINING. The thingie said "use it to entertain your toddler!" so of course, i played with it for like 5 minutes.

Careerbuilder -- lame.

Facebook -- cool, but not anything different from the regular mobile facebook site. I actually like the mobile facebook site a little better.

Myspace -- more of the same.

Loopt -- fucking creepy. I am keeping that shit to IRL friends ONLY.

Jott.com -- PRETTY AMAZING. It's like a voice recorder that transcribes everything you say, which will be AMAZING cos I am a big to do list kind of person. It can also post to your blog and your twitter, which is really cool.

Remote - Awesome, when it works. I'm having lots of issues getting it to stay connected to either iTunes or my Apple TV. When it stops working, and I delete the libraries and their connections, it doesn't recognize it to re-create a link. Annoying.

Shazam - Put your phone up to a speaker, and it will tell you what song it is, who sings it, what album it's on, give you links to the video on youtube, and on some songs, link you to it on iTunes. Accurate for all mainstream stuff, and a better-than-decent amount of off-beat stuff. Considering it's free, it's simply amazing.

Midori - Kinda like Shazam, but a little flakier. It does, however, let you hum part of a song if you can only think of the melody. Also let's you type lyrics in (although a google search would probably be quicker). Not bad.

AIM - haven't used it yet, because the ATT guy who activated my phone told me that IMs would cost as text messages, which sucks, so I'll just text thanks. Can anybody confirm/deny that? I'd like to drop my text package down if possible.

Save Benjis - Basically, it's an app that does a froogle search. Handy for comparison shopping big ticket items.

Weatherbug - I like it better than the native Weather app.

Yelp - does me no good in Bowling Green, but I can imagine if I was in a more populated area, it would be pretty cool. Uses GPS to find your location, then show you restaurants/bars/gas stations/etc in close proximity to your current location, and gives user-submitted reviews of said places.

Paully -- thanks for being the ONLY person to participate in this crap. I thought more people would be into the geek talk but I guess not. :C

I havent heard that about AIM... I certainly hope that's not the case because I am WAAAAAAY over my texts as it is!

oh shit, guys. i just downloaded shazam and next time theres a fucking name that tune thread, i am SO THERE.

MUPaully said, (176 days ago)

Well, if IMs don't count as texts, you can use AIM to send a text message to a phone. To send a text to 419.555.1234, just put "+4195551234" in the "to user" field of the IM. Cuts down on texting way more.

ISNT SHAZAM THE SHIT??

Paully -- I looked at this site (http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-515523.html) and the general consensus seems to agree that AIM doesn't count as texting. I'm hesitant to trust the general public when it comes to iphone stuff, I prefer to get information from an official rep, but to be honest -- and this has been said previously about ATT reps in reference to the iPhone -- a lot of the iphone features and technicalities are completely foreign to ATT reps and many of them are consistently confused about the whole thing.

Either way, I don't use it that often so shrug.
