Where should I get my new iPhone Friday? Do I go to my local ATT store, knowing it will be less insane but might have limited stock (and probably not enough workers), or to the Apple Store where it will be a fucking zoo but they have a bazillion employees and likely a massive amount of iPhones?

I'm going to my local ATT store, but that's mainly due to the fact that the closest Apple store is an hour drive from me.
Last year, I got mine from the apple store at the mall. I dont know about the rest of the country, but it wasn't even busy and I was in and out within 15 minutes. If I actually had the cash to blow, I'd the get new one at the same place.
yeah, unfortunately i can pretty much count on all the manhattan apple stores being mob scenes.
if you go to an apple store how do you get the thing activated? (i don't have att right now.)
I have the same dilemma. But for me, the problem isn't the Apple Store - I have one that's actually within walking distance, and another that's only a 10 minute drive. The closest one is pretty small and rarely gets too crowded. But I plan on using the upgrade on the second line of my Family Talk plan, and I think the AT&T store will be better equipped to handle that.
@electricbathduck: I believe the Apple Store is going to be fully equipped to set up an AT&T plan and activate you. That's why they are opening early.
Depends on the Apple Store you go to. I live in the Bay Area, so there are 93 in the vicinity. There's even an employees one that's open to the public at 1 Infinite Loop. I may go get mine there. If that's not possible, I'll go pick mine up in Burlingame. Everyone else will be in SF, Palo Alto, or San Jose.
i say bite the bullet and hit the apple store. at least you know you'll get one.
