In my hypermilling convo, I just commended Senator John Warner for being the first to propose a plan based on CONSUMPTION rather than passing blame or increasing supply.

In my first two weeks of hypermilling, I've been able to increase my fuel efficiency from 21 to 26 MPG - nearly 25%. I think I can still do better.

Well, I'm not the most knowledgeable about matters of the economy, but isn't this just basically a matter of supply and demand? So, if people take more of their trips by bike, carpooling, etcetera, wouldn't prices naturally come down? Crazy people.

@K is for Kooky: Not entirely. Speculation is the biggest cause of sudden changes in the price of oil.

Certainly, the way to resolve the problem long term is to reduce demand. Increasing supply is only a short term fix, as we know supply is limited. And in the long run, it will only make the matters worse as increased supply promotes higher demand, which will result in disaster when supply can no longer keep up with demand. Unless, of course, that's what your counting on (see speculation above).

Of course, none of that is as powerful as God's will. If God wants gas prices to remain high, then he will do so with every means at his disposal: natural disasters, war, making sure Republicans continue to be elected, etc.
