There was a lot more pop-culture references than I've ever seen in a Pixar film before. But still nothing like a Dreamworks movie (King Fu Panda excepted).
It was fun, but overall I think this movie will seem far more dated in 20 years than their other films.

pixar can't really sell out to Apple... I mean, Steve Jobs is the top dog of both companies.

steve jobs has long sold his stake to pixar to disney which prevented pixar from leaving disney

also this isn't new, cars was all about like staying true to yourself and NOT selling out for fame and fortune and it's by far pixar's biggest movie in terms of merchandise

@Stagewalker: He's not really top dog at Pixar anymore, as he technically only sits on the BoD (AFAIK, he holds no executive title at Disney). Though, he is the largest single shareholder. I'd say he still has a pretty big influence.

@Twigby: I kinda thought that was the "moral" of Toy Story 2, too.
I didn't care for Cars that much when I saw it in the theater. But it grew on me. I think it was the NASCAR aspect that bored me.

@twigby: i loved cars. mostly because it was the first-ever movie i ever took my iddy biddy nephew to and he thought the previews WERE the movie and when the actual movie came on, he fell asleep on my shoulder. I woke him for the final race and went LOOK THE MOVIE! and he got all excited, watched it and thought he'd seen the whole thing. Awwww.

For sers. But all that "end-of-the-world-is-coming-if-you-shop-at-Walmart" stuff kinda overshadowed it.
