that's the bit i was talking about in the other thread...
sheer brilliance
funny, true, smart
thank you for posting it!
you're welcome. :-)
"...but He loves you!"
"...i became a sun-worshipper. several reasons: first of all, i can *see* the sun, ok? ah ha ha ha."
both get me every damn time.
it surprises me to read some of the reactions on here, actually. the death of a beloved figure makes me wistful, and grateful for the work they've done, and, if interrupting the prime of their career, regretful (Paul Wellstone, now that was a hell of a thing)--otherwise, i just *miss* her or him. but Carlin's passing doesn't make me terribly sad, or upset. i just miss him! and am super happy that he stuck around long enough to have so many great, pithy, well-phrased truths recorded spilling from his mouth.
i dunno.... maybe it will be different when beloved creative figures of my generation start dying?
re: that last part...Carlin's just one of those guys that I knew, when he died, i'd be sad.
but overall, i see your point, and you're right. he's left us so much in the way of brilliant material...
@Garak: it was some of the people on another thread just saying things that sounded like they took it very personally, or were mad or almost indignant about it, that caught me off guard. especially for someone over the age of 70 (even if just barely), my response to death is more, "so it goes" and less, "fuck! this sucks!"
yeah, it was the "this sucks" sentiments that made me confused.
