Ladies and Carlos of GTI, please help give Mikkoman style advice. (It's not that he dresses badly. But he could use better pants.)
Replies
Me, personally, I am against belts on jeans for anyone under 40. Or anyone, really. I am FOR buying jeans that sit on your ass rather than fall off it.
I am also against light-colored jeans or denim. I am FOR dark washes and slim cuts. I think Mikkoman needs darker, slimmer-cut jeans but he says he has no idea how to shop for pants, so I am opening the forum for suggestions!
Also he says he usually does not wear jeans 'cause of his office dress code, so he wears khakis. I think he can do better, even with those restrictions.

He's tall and thin, right? He has sooooo much more potential for dressing awesome. He should stop trying to hide himself in his sweater and stand up more.
I was once told by someone who really knows what she's talking about that I needed to just buy a pair of Levi's. Best advice ever. Brother just needs a decent pair of Levi's.
Then, I would recommend a western shirt. Much like this one here: http://www.tactics.com/volcom/cowboy-shirt?src=gglb
Um, cheap? I am sure the cheaper the better, but I don't know his income level.
oh Jesus, I just saw the full body one.
jeans are too fucking short, too fucking skinny, and grown ass men should not wear skater sneaks with jeans.
Also, I actually like the subdued navy-and-gray color combo. Color could be fun in other outfits, but I see nothing wrong with a monochromatic palette as long as it's not drab (and I don't think navy-and-gray is). But yeah, shirts should be left untucked.
The jeans are too short? Hmm. Also, I like zipped-up pullovers on guys. That one doesn't look so hot loose, but it's better when it's zipped up.
He needs to just go to a Buffalo Exchange or maybe get some American Apparel jeans. My brother got the skinny fit purple ones and they look fabulous. It wouldn't take much to be a positive improvement, you're right he's got such potential for dressing awesome. Old Navy makes slim modern looking khakis that he could get away with wearing at work.
Other than the serious untucking need, I don't see anything wrong with his pants.
Also, Salomea is wrong. If there are belt loops on your pants, you wear a fucking belt.
yeah, i agree with the belt thing. i think girls can get away with it more (only because i am guilty of never wearing belts with my jeans. i'm one of those annoying people who wears belts in completely inappropriate places) but guys should usually wear belts.
My take:
1) Don't tuck in t-shirts.
2) Get better fitting jeans. Levi's 527's or 520's would be best.
3) There's nothing wrong with belts
4) The pullover is too long. A short jacket-type that ends at the waist/belt area would look better.
5) I don't know what it is about the shoes, but they do bother me. A pair of Pumas El Rey or Suedes would fit better.
I'd say - untuck. A slimmer line shoe. If he's super into sneaker-esque shoes, I recommend Asics. Ex: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/1284290/c/13679.html This might help the pants not look too short.
Maybe a jean look like this: http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp;jsessionid=05159C1DB023D8452B81559E60931964.app11-node4?itemdescription=true&itemCount=60&id=14690622&parentid=M_APP_WHATSNEW&sortProperties=&navCount=9766&navAction=poppushpush&color=
And maybe a more structured shirt?
Now for the makeover. I'm going for thrifty and accesability, so most of these are going to be from Urban Outfitters.

Yay for Carlo.
Ugh @ all of you and your belt love. No belts on jeans for men, dammit. At least, not belts like that. That is a dress-pant belt.
And there's nothing really WRONG but I just think we should offer tips to make Mike's outfits go from "nothing really wrong" to "ohmygod so RIGHT."
I am just sad to see a tall skinny not-unfortunate-looking dude not taking advantage of the fact that current men's fashion is made for him.
Mikko's outfit says "I don't really care about clothes." And I want him to care, dammit! It's a waste of potential!
the belt wouldn't be an issue if the shirt were untucked.
as it should be.
Hah, Celisse, I am notoriously bad at giving compliments to men who are not gay and who I am not dating. Obviously I agree that Mike's a nice-looking boy.
Whose jacket is wrong, Celisse?
If I remember correctly, I believe that I was the one that used to be a fashion designer and personal shopper.
Basic tip: Wear more fitted clothing. It makes a huge difference between looking like a 90lb weakling and a skinny, but wiry physique.
makes sense to me. skinny dudes drown in things that hang off them and that never looks good. I am totally in the minority here, but I love a skinny guy in super-tight jeans, a great belt buckle (or bullet belt, MEOW), tee shirt and boots. Hot. Not that I am suggesting that Mikko become a metalhead, mind you.
i wouldn't dare question your holy fashion sense.
brb my eyes just rolled down the fucking street again.
Brandi: I love a skinny guy in tight jeans/trousers too. That's indeed where I'm aiming at. Mike, you need to show off your ass, that's my point.
@Salomea: I disagree. If he's skinny, there's no ass to show off. It's just a matter of personal taste, but I'm not big on skinny guys. But a well-fitting outfit can downplay that. Too tight and you look like a walking skeleton. Too lose and you look like a broomstick under a tent.
I agree with everything else basically:
Untuck the shirt. The pants are fine. Lose the jacket. Get a comfy jacket or hoodie that can be button or zipped up. Open jackets are kind of sloppy-looking unless it's an overcoat. I suggest a cotton hoodie ni the same dark blue, but with some accent color, like a few strips on the sleeves.
@Pagne. I guess. I definitely know that I am not fond of bubble butts or round ones on men at all, despite what everyone else seems to think. I am into the skinny no-ass look, heh.
@Pagne: Yeah like I said, it's a matter of opinion. I like real beefy guys. But in any case, i think everyone looks best in clothes that fit well. Too tight or too loose just doesn't look good.
This was fun to read. And Carlo picked some good pants. Those were exactly what I was thinking of. Maybe get a similar style in a dark denim, too.
Thanks everybody! I'll get shopping.
Keep in mind that the above is my "casual wear", which I get to put on about once a month.

First thing: Untuck that t-shirt.
