If you average the upper and lower auction estimates of 7 of the pieces of artwork I've moved today, the total value is approximately £5,500,000.

But is it yours?

Obviously, I've moved more than 7 pieces of work today though. It's weird being around such things on such a regular basis.

beccah. said, (121 days ago)

ok not yours

@ just beccah : No, I neither own it or made it. Not sure which question you were asking, but either way it was rhetorical really wasn't it?

But how much is that in real money?

soulcamp said, (121 days ago)

@CM: I believe that comes out to around 853 million Icelandic krona. Wow!

make art said, (121 days ago)

@ Combustible Monkey: I assume by real money, you mean the weak dollar of your homeland as opposed to Pound sterling, the oldest currency still in current usage, it's origins to be found toward the end of the 8th century.

Approx. $10,722,724 US

@make art: Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever.

Your money's all different sizes and colors and all gay-looking.

@ Combustible Monkey : You're money would be more fun if Nixon hadn't taken bills larger than $100 out of circulation in 1969.

M.K. VanBustiemaan said, (121 days ago)

Bleh. Our money would be better if they weren't dyeing it all pink.

Green and pinkbacks just doesn't have the same ring.

Just an observation by the way, not a criticism.

I like the big orange $100,000 bills.

Huh. I'd never seen that one before. It's pretty awesome, in a Monopoly-looking way.

In Australia I believe their notes are plastic and so are waterproof.

Having read The Long Goodbye fairly recently, I was curious about "portraits of Madison" (and who else might be featured on the bigger notes) and so found myself at that same page.

my uncle runs a painting company and once got to move an entire collection of Calders and Cornells. they were just sitting in someone's diningroom. makes me a little jumpy just thinking about it.

make art said, (121 days ago)

@ L : I had to move a Calder mobile earlier this week. They're a pain in the arse to try and carry.

The expensive 7 I had to move yesterday were by De Kooning, Basquiet, Dan Flavin, Anish Kapoor, Damien Hirst, Christopher Wool and Sean Scully.

L said, (121 days ago)

mike, that's ridiculous. my stomach feels funny.
i can imagine a calder would be a bitch.

flyingfishstick said, (117 days ago)

Damien Hirst... Grrr, that guy makes me mad.

make art said, (117 days ago)

@ flyingfishstick : The sale of his work may mean I get paid quicker, so while he may be a dull artist, I am prepared to tolerate it.

One of his paintings in the show was ridiculously heavy though.
