i tried sushi for the first time tonight... not a fan. im not talking california rolls either. the real deal. strangest texture ever. ugh.

Do yourself a favor and try it at least one more time before you write it off completely. Everyone I've ever been with when they first tried it made note of the strange texture and generally decided it wasn't for them...now, they all eat it on a bi-weekly basis.

rough eel? What the hell kind of crap sushi place is this that can't do up unagi maki properly? That stuff should melt in your mouth!
I love it all. maki rolls, nigiri, sashimi, hand rolls, tempura, and especially miso soup. Making your own miso soup is incredibly easy, if you know where to get paste.
