I watched [and listened] as half a dozen funnel clouds passed growling over my house on Sunday. Just so we can all identify with my redneck identity, me, my girlfriend, and the entire family stood outside and watched.

Well, it's really a socio-econmic thing. Storm cellers were a building typology from early farming/settlements where full basements were too expensive to build. Today's similar typology is the mobile home park. That don't even have storm cellars!
We've actually only got a half-basement at our house because of the high water table.
Indeed! It ain't a storm if the sky doesn't go green, the clouds look like boiling water, or you get goosebumps from just looking at it/from the highly ionized air.
I grew up on the Arkansas/Oklahoma border and storm season was my faaavorite. Storm Watch was the only thing worth interrupting the X-Files for.
Speak for yourself, boy! That doesn't make us rednecks, just awesome.
@ginger: Where abouts in AR/OK? I grew up in NW Arkansas. Fayetteville/Springdale
@manuel, a little town on the other side of Bella Vista and Bentonville called Hiwasse.
I've had some of the best times of my life in Fayetteville though.
@ginger: And I thought I knew my Arkansas geography. Now if Fayetteville/Springdale was boring I don't even want to imagine what its like in Hiwasse.
Nice to know though there's someone around from home. You're not still back in AR though right?
No, I moved to Orange County a while back.
Hiwasse had a population of 300 people and about 60 churches, it was obviously a blast.

That kind of weather is so exciting, only a pussy would stay inside cowering away.
