Mac users, I need your help. My yahoo messenger and address book has garbage text in it. what can i do to fix this?

i'm afraid to add any non apple approved programs to my mac.

i added a bunch of fonts due to my job, and i got them from a designer that uses a mac.

before i added new ram and these fonts everything was fine, now not so much.
