Weekend

So I had a pretty good weekend. Saw Persepholis on Friday, and that was excellent. Saturday I dumped a wit beer that I made. It had to be done; the damn thing tasted like swampwater. Cleaned everything up, and got supplies for the next batch going. Sunday I played a ton of Mass Effect, which so far seems pretty well put together. The conversation trees are out of control, but I haven't gotten bored by that yet, and the game seems to be paced pretty well, so fuck it. There goes a few hours of my life. Yesterday I bottled a beer that smelled like honeysuckle, and made a new beer-we'll see how that goes, but I'm hopeful-and basically did just enough work to be disproportionately lazy.

Yourself?

I'd break down exactly what happened on what day, but I frankly don't remember.

I finished Penny Arcade Adventures, played through most of Fable, finished reading Count Dante's book about Incredibly Strange Wrestling, found a really good little burger joint three blocks from me and had buffalo with bacon, finished Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations, played some GTA, got mostly caught up on Battlestar Galactica, took a massive urban hike up to the top of a fairly tall hill near the Castro with a great view of the City and the Bay, witnessed a Cardboard Tube Fighting League tournament upon said hill.

I dug on Count Dante's book-what did you think of it?

saturday i worked. a bunch. and i was fucking tired, running on no sleep. and then i saw an exceptionally good film , the visitor. and then i fell asleep, and woke up super duper early. and sunday i had the day off, and killed it hanging out at the coffee shop, and taking my dog walking, and hanging out at the tattoo shop. and then we watched there will be blood, and i met the brother's new escapade. and then i slept some more. and monday i met the brother at the coffee house again, and then i wrote a bunch and hung out inside because of the raining, and then i cooked dinner for the brother. (and the new escapade ate some leftover curry because she is vegan rather than just vegetarian so she couldn't have my lasagna) and i had some freakouts re: david, and i didn't get to sleep until 4, and then i was up again at 7. and that was my weekend.

oh yeah, and i also read a bunch and listened to some amazing and my brain is overloaded just the way i like it.

On Friday I came home from work and took a nap and then I woke up and took a bath. Then the boyfriend and I went for a long walk with the dogs and some frozen yogurt. Then we went home and played around on fulltilt and watched the Larry Sanders show. On Saturday, I don't remember, it was really boring. Went to dog training at 3, friends were supposed to come over at 4, but called around 6 to say they weren't. We went to the park and walked the dogs. Patrick went to go watch the fights, so I hung out with Chuck and watched the Big Lebowski. Sunday we picked up some dessert and took it to a coworker's bbq and had an awesome time taking pictures of her raccoon. Monday we got stoned and ate biscuits and gravy like it was the last thing we'd ever eat.

@___ Sounds interesting. I actually read a bunch myself, but it sounds like you enjoyed your book a lot more than I did.

Did you enjoy There Will Be Blood? It looks...overwrought. Sorry about the freakouts, but I hope they've passed.

@ilg; Sounds like a pretty full weekened-though a drag about the rude friends.

Yeah, I'm totally not speaking to them for a while.

@Superion: I dug it as well. Really made me want to have been there and seen it all go down.

Bit rough around the edges, though. I think that it could have used another round of editing and polishing for things like grammar and word-choice.

You also saw In Bruges. I'm still not sure what to make of it. Which makes sense, because I remembered that I had seen a play written by the director/writer of In Bruges called The Lonesome West, and I wasn't sure what to make of that, either.

Superion said, (225 days ago)

I totally thought I'd mentioned In Bruges. But I liked that movie too; it doesn't quite flip like Hot Fuzz did so the ending makes a lot more sense.

fuznotfuz said, (225 days ago)

Oh, I liked it...I'm not sure if there's a message for the viewer in it, is all. I'm not sure it means much, and, while I'm not fashed by its lack of meaning, I'm expecting more than that, given the amount of suffering the film depicts.

Also: I want to go to Bruges now. Then again, I'm sure everybody wants to go to Bruges now.

@C-M; I thought it's conversational tone actually worked a lot in it's favor. I see what you mean, but reading it gave me the vibe of sitting around a bar listening to Dante tell stories about 'the wild days' if you will. So it's roughness was a bonus-it made the whole thing more likable for me.

@Fuz-I suppose I can see that, though I am not sure there's suppoesed to be much meaning, given the darkness of the characters themselves. Bad people doing bad things to other bad people, you know?

fuznotfuz said, (225 days ago)

@Superion: Except it seemed that some of these characters are trying to do good, in some fashion…and I don't know there's a concomitant follow-through with the strong redemptive undertone of the film. I mean, it's all well and good to see bad people do bad things to each other, but when the bad people try to be good, without anything working as it should…it just seems a bit meaningless, without an especially daft hand behind the wheel. And this guy's not quite there yet.

Uncanny MONCHICHI said, (225 days ago)

@Superion: This is true. And it's not like I'm looking for a scholarly work. And in general, it was a hell of a lot of fun.

I'm just a stickler for grammar in the things I read.

Superion said, (225 days ago)

Well I get that. Just because your story is about a bunch of socially backwards nutjobs doesn't necessarily mean you get to slack.

Ummm... got tore up at the cowboy bar Friday night - first time ever going, and it seemed like the thing to do after the week I've had. Crashed at R's immediately following. Woke up sick the next morning - seems I'm allergic to some component of Woody's coolers (get sick every time I drink them, no matter how many or few I have). Stayed in Saturday night. Slept twelve hours and missed church. Went out Sunday night to the local beach volleyball bar. Threw back a few with friends, got roped into a somewhat embarrassing contest because a friend of mine was on the promo team, and finished the night out with witnessing and assisting in the aftermath of a "Something About Mary"-franks-and-beans freak accident. (I need to call that guy and find out if he ever went to the hospital... it was bleeding a LOT...)
