HTML strictly or WYSIWYG?
If it's just for HTML and you just want syntactic or semantic highlighting, go with Programmer's Notepad
Are you on Mac?

If you want a good html editor (not wysiwyg) go for Taco HTML. I love it.

PC. WYSIWYG if possible. Nothing fancy, and I have enough trouble sticking ancient languages in my head so I don't need to learn a lot of complicated syntax.

For WYSIWYG, our department's tech person proselytizes Nvu. http://www.nvu.com/
I'm not a fan, but I could never get into WYSIWYG webpage editors anyway.

XML + XSL really is how HTML should be generated for data driven apps.

There's some basic ones on the net... I have dreamweaver though. not that i use it
