I'd say go with either fitted/flat-front black slacks and v-neck (non-slutty) top. OR a cute pencil skirt and blazer combo.

@Alexis - seriously, get down to the Banana Republic (or some other similarly classy joint), find a salesperson and don't leave until you've got a complete outfit. They get paid a commission, so make'em earn it.

it depends on the job. you should in general dress a little more formal than how everyone else at the firm dresses. so if it is a casual work environment, you don't need to show up in a suit. in a way, you want to show that you fit in. you want to look like you already work there.
