the best piece of advice i have ever gotten is this: when you're hugging someone, let them let go first.

yeah, it is sort of a piece of advice that you want to keep for yourself. but i don't hug any of y'all except for my sister and she'll never follow this.
@ethan: totally.
why? think of how discomforting it is when you are hugging someone and you want to keep hugging but they pull away before you're ready. hugging is wonderful.
But then you're always the one who gets hurt by the loss of hug! This hugging business must be a painfuly emotional situation.
@ricknums: yeah but you get to know that they had a great hug and let go when they were ready, and ALSO chances are you 'll get a longer hug out of it since you won't have been the first to let go! duhhh1
What about other hugging rule? How tight is too tight, or not tight enough? How do you hug a girl and not be one of those creeps just feeling her chest without doing one of those bent over hugs that looks like you dont really want to hug? How does a really tall person hug a really short person? What if your arms can wrap all the way around them and back to you again? THESE ARE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS AND MUST BE ANSWERED!!!! :P
i give really tight hugs. i think they're comforting. and i get real close, but take cues from what the other person does. if s/he sticks her butt out, i'm not going to give a deep intense hug to them. you'll find, once you start paying attention, that lots of people want long wonderful hugs if you just give them.
I'm a sexist hugger, because with dudes I do the one-under, one-over hug. With girls, I prefer that they throw their arms around my neck, or around my middle. I also think tight hugs are necessary. NECESSARY.
I, too, am a sexist hugger. I'm a two tap and out hugger w/ dudes, but with girls I can stay all day.
i like that rule.
and everyone gets good tight hugs if they will let me hug them. sometimes tight hugs and a kiss on the cheek.
@ethan: i do the same, but switched. with dudes i either hug around the middle (preferred) or around the neck (only worth it if they pick me up along with it), but with girls i tend to do the equal hug.
yeah, i have gotten lots of feedback lately that my hugs feel "safe" and i think that's because i hold on TIGHT

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THAT OTHER PERSON HAS HEARD THE SAME THING AND THEN NEITHER ONE OF YOU EVER LET GO? HOW WOULD YOU EAT? HOW WOULD YOU SLEEP? HOW WOULD YOU LIVE?!
