The story of the sign

Those of you in southern California know what I'm talking about.  For everyone else, this article gives a biographical sketch of the artist who designed the sign along I-5 in San Diego and Orange counties warning people to be cautious of families running across the freeway.  Please especially check out the Interactive Feature "Sign of the Times", partway down the first page of the article.  It gives more of a background into the conditions that led to the need for the sign, narrated by a photojournalist who documented the dangerous journey of undocumented immigrants in the 80s
